Recently I had this problem for a customer.
Take a fill in the blank question, rename the associated variable name to 'name'.
Let them type their name. I know there is a reserved variable calles AICC_Student_Name but this solution gives more freedom to choose what will come on the certificate.
Next page certicate-form. you use your variable in the "Set name"-action.
The only restriction stays that someone only can print. So if there is somekind of problem you cannot save your certicate.
