QR code feature in Lectora

Why does the new version of Lectora allow you to insert a QR code into a page?
QR codes are only used in print (Or sometimes projected presentations) to link physical objects to the web.
I'd be interested to hear any way QR codes could be applied to m-learning.

Wouldn't a simple link accomplish the same thing? The only thing that comes to mind is if you were linking a QR code directly to an app the user could download. Can that be done?
Edit: I just tried this and it works. I had the same questions as the OP about this feature, but this is actually a really good use if you are creating training that requires someone to download an app. I am currently designing such training.
