Published equations in gif or MathML

I have a problem with the functionality of the Equation Editor. I recognized the editor as a (reduced) version of the MathType editor from Design Science. As I understand the revolution of the MathML it gives us the ability to present mathematical expressions on the web in scalable format without the need to use "ugly" pictures of equations. Now to my surprise I found that the nice looking scalable equations I made with the Trivantis Equation editor was nevertheless published as (ugly, non scalable) gif images, when I published them to HTML. How can that be? The whole point of using MathML to specify equations is then lost! Perhaps it is good for browser compatibility problems, but there are MathML players and ways to get around compatibility problems.Anyway it is extremely important for the engineers where I work to have printable and good looking equations and formulas in web publications, so this is a serious problem, if we cannot publish equations as MathML rather than as pictures. What should I do?
