If I understand you correctly, you would like the sidebar to toggle on and off from either the hyperlink or the sidebar image itself.You could use a transparent text box over the hyperlink and also one over the sidebar. You should then be able to use a toggle action to show/hide the sidebar. I am sorry if I have not understood your question correctly.
