Optimum published screen size?

Depends on your audience. Currently most of our clients are using 1024x768 as a minimum. There are also other clients who we design around widescreen because all their people have widescreen laptops.For new clients who ask our recommendation, we suggest 1024x768. (Far too many people have this resolution still, to recommend moving to a higher one.)
