Opening Lectora v16 file is v12
June 22, 2016 12:00 AM
Hi All,
I seem to be having a weird issue with opening up a Lectora v16 file in Lectora v12. The issue is with Text Blocks, in v16 i have a text block with the size set at Arial 14.... when this same file is opened in v12 the size is still at 14 BUT it displays a larger size (not able to match with any font value).

Therefore if a file (template) is created in v16, when opened for development and/or even publishing all elements are thrown off.

Please have a look at the attached files.
v16-Primary - Screenshot of runtime/browser view of a pages layout (created in v16)
v12-Secondary - Screenshot of the same page above when opened/view/published in v12

Usually software is backward compatible, not forward. Opening a v12 .awt in v16 should work so you can update and get added benefits of the newer application.
The solution is to either publish v16 material in v16 or create your templates in v12 as they should work in v16 as well with little or no fuss (but don't expect to be able to go backwards after working with them in v16.)
Why are you trying to open something made in the newer version of the software in a previous version anyway?
It's recommend that you open v16 and then import the v12 course. This helps the process the older course material using the newer system. While some changes in between v12 and v16 are going to cause notable differences it will help reduce the number of irregularities found.
I think you might be misunderstanding what Sulaimaan is asking. He wants to be able to work with a v16 file in v12. He must have both installed on the same, or more likely, different computers. Bottom line should be don't expect 100% backwards compatibility.
Sidenote: you can install both L12 and L16 on the same machine, just make sure to set the folder path correctly during the installation so that one does not overwrite another. You can then launch any of those to open courses as needed. I think some people on this community have more than two versions installed in parallel :)
I do :) If you need help contact our support team and they can walk you through the process.
