Newbie: Optimum screen/layout size for online trainings in Lectora

The browser toolbar is a problem because it wastes so much space on your learner's window, but I have a way of getting round this. It involves displaying a first screen (which as we have said displays the browser toolbars), but then automatically opening a new window with no toolbars, scroll bars, etc. The original window can then be closed because it is not needed any longer. All you are left with is a neat toolbar-less window with your learning content in it.

Here's how it's done.

1. Create your course with a resolution of 785 x 580 to be on the safe side.

2. When the course is ready, insert a new Lectora page at the very front of your course. Remove all inherited parent objects so it is as plain as possible. Add a text entry field saying 'loading...'

3. Add an action to the page with these properties:

> On show

> GoTo

> Next Page

> Delay action by 2 seconds

> Check the ‘Open in new window’ box (then click the 'window properties' button and ensure that all six checkboxes for 'No Toolbars', 'No scroll bars', etc., are checked)

> Click 'OK', followed by 'OL' again

Now publish your title to HTML. You should find that the loading page displays for 2 seconds (with the unwanted browser toolbars at the top). However, after two seconds you get a nice new window with the first screen of your learning content displayed in a window that doesn't have all the toolbars, scroll bars and so on.

I find this method works fine. The user can close the original window if they wish, but most just continue with the learning material because it now sits on top of your loading page.
