Maintaining visibility of objects that were not initially visible

Thanks for your response. It sounds like a great idea, but where would you put the new actions? I tried adding actions to the root, but got an error message saying that it acts on a button that is not accessible from this page, even though the menu buttons are on the same level.

The menu is simply set up as Chapter 1, Page 1, Page 2, Page 3; Chapter 2, Page 1, Page 2, Page 3; Chapter 3, Page 1, Page 2, Page 3. The visibility action works when I put it into a chapter or page, but of course it does no good when you’re on other chapters or pages.
