LMS Timed Out Session

Our modules are around one hour long, split into lessons, then topics. We have the modules open in a new window outside the LMS. When the user accesses the module and stays in the module for the alloted time (or longer) when they eventually leave the module by clicking a Exit button, the session is being timed out because our LMS is set to 20 minutes.Is there a way to communicate between the LMS and the module so the user does not get timed out?
