A 25mg .awt file is huge! If I were having this problem, I would proceed like you have here, copy and paste the pages into a new title and see what you get. I have done imports before with no problem. May be there is a problem with the old title. Another option is to try exporting to XML and import the XML into a clean title in the same folder. But that has issues, TOCs don't go correctly and many other subtle things. Carriage returns in Display actions get trashed. But you could try it and see how big the new title was.
