How do you make an image transparent?

Thanks for all the Help/Suggestions. Lectora Professional Suite has its own image editor software. Who knew ..... After a little help from SKSmith and the nice help in the software I was able to get my background of the image to transparent. Many Thanks.Thanks for all the Help/Suggestions.
