Graphic Quality vs. Format vs. File Size

Two issues are here really. Initial quality and then size. Initial quality: Use a tool other than PowerPoint to get the objects, especially PowerPoint drawings into Lectora. I have found that the easiest one is SnagIt 8. You copy PPT stuff to the clipboard and then you can use a quick key stroke combination (I use Ctrl+Shift+C) to have SnagIt save it quickly to a folder as a .gif. I already have that folder open and have it automatically named. I just drag the drawing onto my Lectora page. I have it save pictures as .jpgs or .pngs depending on size. You usually get better quality if you resize in a drawing tool. Making it larger will get you poorer quality. Making is smaller in a drawing tool or even in Lectora seems to do OK. Note: If you make items smaller in Lectora, when published, Lectora will shrink the graphic size. I have seen some 300K items go to 30K!!!Size is is important if your audience will be using dial-up. Otherwise, keep graphics less than 100k in general or the total page size including graphics in that range and you will be fine. Larger pages work fine in LAN environments. Stuff that has to use the internet can get slowed down with a lot of items on a page or big ones.
