GillSans Font is not recognized when publishing the page to IE
May 7, 2014 12:00 AM
I am developing a course in Lectora Enterprise Edition using GillSans fonts. However, when I publish the course in IE, the font is changed to Arial instead of GillSans. Can anyone help me here to share how to set GillSans font in IE so when I publish the course it will show the same font that I am using in Lectora? Thank you.

Not sure why it is doing that. The only way I know around it is to check the Convert to Image box on the properties of the text boxes.
Generally you cannot depend on the user having anything except web safe fonts which include arial and verdana. If this is for your company and you are sure all have it, then it should work as you want it to. Not sure why it would change.
If you have a font installed on your PC and it is available in Lectora, it should also be available in the browser. Sometimes there might be problems with the font names, but that has to be debugged separately. I'll be happy to help you if you provide a simple 1-page project with some text in Gills (both the title and the output).
Also, like Ben said, if you are not sure that other users have the Gills font on their systems, they will not see it, unless you do some embedding. You can either search these forums for how to do that (look for "webfonts"), or ask here.
UPDATE. I forgot to ask, is the Gills problem specific to IE? What about other browsers?
Are you viewing it on a different computer? As Ben said, if the computer does not have the font installed, it will not be able to display as intended. It will substitute a different font, as it may have done with Arial in this case.
Thanks a lot for the feedback and suggestion guys! Really appreciate it. :)
I have not tried in other PC and in different browser. I will try and will post here if there is any issues.
I understand that Lectora does not embed the fonts and only recognizes Web-friendly fonts such as Arial, Verdana, or Tahoma.
I did not have this issue with my old PC using Windows XP. I have recently upgraded my PC to Windows 7. Since then having this issue.
I have checked the font under the Tools>Internet Options>Fonts but Gillsans is not listed there.
Have a great day :)
Your new computer does not have Gill Sans installed, which is why the browser is defaulting to Arial. It has nothing to do with Lectora unless the source code is specifying Arial. Lectora does recognize fonts that are not web safe, but the computer viewing the output must have the font installed first. Did you develop the course on the old computer and are now trying to view the output with the new computer? You can install the font and it may work for you, but it is unpredictable what other users may see. If you must use a font that is not web safe, you should convert it to an image and use it sparingly.
