I know this is a really old post, but I just experienced a similar problem and thought I'd include it and the resolution here. I got the cryptic "Error Creating File" message in association with a specific page. After some troubleshooting (and hair pulling) turns out my page title was too long on that page (well, at least shortening it fixed the problem). I've also gotten it in the past when saving to a disk that was too full. There the message appears at the bottom instead of in conjunction to a particular page.
