different buttons for different pages

hi,i've created a column of multi-colour buttons using the button wizard. I want to use this 'generic' set on all my pages, but on the relevant pages only have the relevant button hightlighted and the rest grayed out. But, when one then does hover your mouse over one of the buttons it should display it's original colour. i've tried it but every time i make a change to the button properties it changes all the other buttons on all the pages in the file as well. how do you i go about effecting change only on one particular page at a time?many thanks.
