Customizing the course title text

Not the text in the text box. I want to italicize part of the text for the title of a page, chapter, course. For example, if you are at the page level, you might have a title to that page. When you click on the Page properties, you type in the page name. This is where I would like to italicize part of the title. I can't because the font type, size, bold, italic functions are grayed out. 

I am thinking that there is no way around this unless maybe I disinherit the title and put a text box on each page of the course but wanted to verify.
