Course Split and Simulations
June 17, 2019 12:00 AM
Hello all,
I am still new to Lectora/instructional design and I am running into an issue that I've never worked with before. My company has 2 different systems that we work with in our retail stores, for simplicity sake's we'll call them A and B. A's simulations can be captured via Captivate but B's cannot so I have to build it in Lectora. I want to make a screen where you can choose to do A or B, branch off to do the A Sim or the B Sim, and then come back to the original page and continue through the course. I haven't built anything like this yet and the example files that I have found don't have an example of this that deal's with captivate sims.
Can anyone recommend a resource I could look at as an example of how to do this?
Thank you,
Anthony

Adam,
Thank you for this explanation and resource. I really appreciate it.
Have a good day,
Anthony
Anthony, when you say, "Two different systems.." are you referring to two different learning management systems? What do you mean by "capture" simulations?
Here's a quick example - many ways to do this, I tried to choose the most straight-forward... might be an easier way, but I definitely know there are many other ways...
- Two buttons on the first page to take you to each store.
- Each chapter for the stores have unique buttons (first page of the chapter needs a unique 'back' button to take back to the 'choose your store' page. Last page of the chapter needs a unique 'next' page to also take user back to the choose your store page.
- On the last page of the respective store chapter, modify a variable so you know which store they chose (in case you need to use it later for an assessment. I have it modify a variable called 'Var_store'. it will contain the letter A if they chose store A, and (you guessed it), Var_store will contain the letter B if they chose store B.
- Once they get back to the original page after completing their respective section, a couple actions on page show to both hide the store buttons, and show the completion group, which has a button to take them to the subsequent chapter.
- You could of course just have the user continue with the course after their respective store section, which would be a bit simpler, but if you need them to return to the original page, then you will need a setup similar to what I've done.
I zipped up and attached the example. Hope it helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
Hello Darrel,
We have two different retail systems. Our company acquired another company and didn't update the store's terminals to be the same across the board. So when I am designing courses and it requires a simulation of the retail system for clocking in, clocking out, etc. I have to make two different versions. We use the same LMS system for all of our stores.
When I say "capture" I am referring to in one of the retail systems we do have the ability record (capture) the process and then replicate it in Captivate. For the other we cannot do this, so we have to do screen shots of it instead.
