Course Design Best Practices

Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone has suggestions or knows of good resources about best practices of course design? Lectora comes with some great templates, but I'm wanting to build one that's specific to my organization, and I don't have much experience when it comes to course design.
I do have several years of experience in web design, and some of that is transferable... but I'd like to know more about design as it relates to e-learning!
