Closed Captioning not appearing in Chrome and IE
February 8, 2018 12:00 AM
So, I have added closed captions to a video in Lectora course. I've tried VTT, SRT and XML. The captions function as expected in Firefox, but do not appear in any format in current Chrome or IE. Does anyone have any tips/hints/ideas?

So, I was viewing the above in a course that was published to HTML. And viewing in the browser. I published using VTT with SCORM on, uploaded to SCORMCloud and tested...and was able to view the captions in both Chrome and IE. Sigh.
And the plot thickens... when adding a caption to an audio track. ONLY XML works...in all browsers when launched from SCORM cloud. It will run natively with XML and ONLY in Firefox.

These things will only work when the published course is run off a web server. It's a security thing which most browsers honour and has no workaround.
Makes sense, but also makes testing a bear! Thanks!
In Lectora's defence, it ain't their fault. Browser makers need to prevent actions that would allow malicious users to cause damage.
