Cleaning up corrupted RTF Translation Files

I vendor that I was recently working with had a proprietary process to clean up RTF translation files that had been corrupted by editing in MS Word:

Trivantis could create a tool or a procedure (whitepaper?) to cleanup RTF files that have been corrupted.
When working with non-Lectora users it is not always possible to guarantee that the files will not be manipulated with MS Word. When they are, there is no formalized process to reverse the damages that are done to them. This would be helpful to ALL Lectora users who utilize the translation tool.
