Change content upon returning to page

Hello,I'm trying to create a "menu"-type page where users will be able to click on chapter titles, then be brought to that particular chapter. At the end of the chapter, the user will be brought back to that menu page. I'd like to set it up so that on return to the menu page, any previously clicked Chapter will be greyed out (different picture in the button I guess). Not able to get the greyed button to activate on return, or stay activated when users click to other chapters and return. Thoughts?
