Thanks for all of the help and a special tip of the hat to Ben.SHEL, Ben taught me that you should not copy or cut and paste icons in the tree. When you do this, your variables will disappear. The best way to copy an icon is to drag and drop it. When you copy or cut an icon, it puts the data on the clipboard and therefore disconnects it from Lectora, but when you drag and drop it, the icon and all of its data stay intact.
