Audio Swap Help

Recently, a co-worker of mine left the company. She built a course a few years ago, in Lectora Enterprise Edition, that needs some audio swapped (actually FLV files because of Closed Captioning). Since she's no longer with us, the course edits fell to me. Unfortunately, I'm not an experienced Lectora user and am running into a small problem when swapping the files.

With the original FLV file in place, Lectora allows for events to be added which tells the course to show/hide text elements while the audio is playing. I can edit that without any problems (see originalVideo.jpg), but…

When I overwrite the file with the updated FLV file, Lectora does not allow me to edit the events. It locks it out (see updatedVideo.jpg). So, the text animation that should occur never happens.

Again, I'm not experienced with Lectora and I'm in desperate need of help. We've got a deadline to get this out the door by next Thursday (2/5) and I don't know how to make it happen.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. We're willing to pay an hourly rate for help as well. Thanks so much in advance!

From my understanding, it is old. It's version X.4.1 (7782). On the machine, I do have Lectora Inspire, but my co-worker said that if we edit the course in that version, it breaks it somehow. Again, I'm not very experienced with this software, so I'm just going by what she said.

If I can create the events in the Inspire editor, I'll try that and see what I can do. Is there a tutorial somewhere that can show me how this is done?

Again, I really appreciate the help!!

Events are saved in the video file. If you're using a different file you'll have to newly set all the events you need in the new file. That can be done by using Lectora's video editor. But I think that comes only with Lectora Inspire.

Which version of Lectora is it? Seems to be quite old.

If the video editor is available, it's really easy to set events. Check the screenshot to see how it can be done. The screenshot comes from a german version of vX.6 so it may look a little different from your version.

After you have saved the file in the video editor you'll need to close and open the audio properties or switch to another tab and go back to see the events in the events tab.

Thanks, Tim! I'll give that a go and see what happens.

Here's a little insight into how Lectora works with media events.

1. The FLV meta data contains a list of cuepoints, which have a name and a timestamp:

"Event 1 - 00:01:15"

"Event 2 - 00:02:44"

etc

2. The Lectora project contains a list of actions that correspond to the cuepoints:

on Event1 - show an image

on Event2 - hide an image

This means that if you replace the original FLV in the /media/ folder, you will lose the cue points but the actions will be there in your project. So all you need to do is to:

a) either open the new FLV in the video editor as suggested and re-create the events

b) or find a way to copy meta data from the original FLV to the new FLV.

(a) or (b) depends on whether you have a few events and files or you have dozens of events in hundreds of files. You might look at tools like "flvtool2" for that.
