AICC Bookmarking revisited.
November 29, 2004 12:00 AM
AICC Bookmarking is not working with one of our courses on SABA. We have two other courses and Bookmarking is working. We compared the course architecture (left window) and each of the flags/answers to questions that Lectora asks in the Title and AICC panels. All three are consistent. The non-Bookmarking course originally had first page labeled a001_index.html. We deleted this page in the most recent version and replaced it with a page0 in the first chapter.Otherwise, everything except the number of pages and course content is exactly alike in all three courses...and in one bookmarking does not work and in the other two, bookmarking does work.Any ideas? Best wishes...JOhn

Did you change the name of the Title of the Course in the left hand frame or did you just paste in the new text to copies of the original English language version?Could be the cookies think it's the same course, and that's screwing things up.
Can you send me your published content ... actually, I only need the a001_xxx where xxx is the first page of the course? It would also help to get the first page of the course that does work. I don't need any of the supporting files ... just the html.TimBTW ... you don't need to wait for the heartbeat ... just close the content when you get to a page other than the first page.
There is a small bug with AICC bookmarking in the JavaScript implementation of the TitleMgr that the Lesson Location doesn't get updated unless you set one of the other AICC reserved variables (or have persistent data). This issue is resolved in SP2 for 2006 (due out shortly).Tim
We recently had similar problems with bookmarking when publishing to AICC. When returning to a course, theere was no prompt to return to the last viewed page. Here is what solved the problem for us: When publishing, under the "Options" tab in Lectora, uncheck the "Use Java Script Title Manager" box. With this box NOT checked, the bookmarking worked fine for us. Hope this helps!
John,The bookmark restore logic is placed on the very first page of the published content. This page name is written into the a001titlemgr.html file so he knows where to go to when he gets loaded. If the value of the AICC_Lesson_LOcation variable is different than the default first page, the question will be asked to the user. What happens when the content loads ... does it just go to the first page and never prompts? Sounds like you need to republish the entire content ... delete the published content on the LMS ... and then re-add the new published content to the server. That way you won't get any mismatches between old and new published content.Tim V.
Amazing! Well, unchecking "Use JavaScript Title Manager" worked. Bookmarking seems to be working on those two courses that were a problem. Thank you so much!
We're having a similiar problem. We recently switched from Lectora International Publishing Suite v. 2005 to Lectora v. 2006, which I'm guessing could be causing the problem. I recently made French- and Spanish-language versions of an English module created in an older version of Lectora. (Which I did by pasting the new text into a copy of the original module.) We're inconsistently having one of two problems. Most often, the bookmarking feature doesn't work at all within the course content; when you reopen the course after leaving partway through, it opens the first page of the course and doesn't prompt you to return to the last-viewed page. However, if you quit partway through the quiz then open the course again, it will prompt you asking if you want to return to where you were. If you answer "yes," it takes you back to the "failed" page (i.e. the page you were on when you quit). If you then navigate back to the start of the quiz and complete the quiz and course, the new score is not passed to the LMS, and the course is still listed as incomplete. Occasionally, we've had a different bookmarking behavior when testing this course. You exit in the middle of the course, open the course again and get the alert box asking if you want to return to where you were. That works correctly. If you then go further in the course and exit again then open the course again and click "OK" to return to were you were previously, it takes you to the original bookmarked page, not the one you just left. It seems to keep returning to the same bookmarked page no matter how many times you exit and reenter the course. We're publishing to AICC, and Saba is our LMS. Any suggestions?
Do you mean the title name at the very top in the left panel? No, I had changed the AU name but not the title. (However, I've just changed that as well, and the situation is the same.) I'm not sure what you mean about the cookies. I've created courses this way dozens of times and haven't had this problem before. I deleted the whole aicc folder and republished. I assume you're referring to the trivantis-xxx.js files that are generated when you publish? I figured deleting the folder would force the program to recreate them.
Hello Tim:Thanks for the reply. We followed your suggestions and took these steps: 1. Republished content 2. Deleted published content on Saba 3. Re-added newly published content 4. Logged into the course, did not get Welcome Back prompt 5. Advanced through several pages using next button 6. Stopped on the 1st page of the second chapter and waited for 15 minutes to let heartbeat work 7. Logged out of the course 8. Logged out of Saba 9. Logged back into Saba 10. Launched the course the second time, the Welcome Back prompt alert did not appear and the course launched on the first page.Any thoughts? Thanks for your help...JOhn
