Actions linked to Mp3 not working in IE

I have a course that often has events triggered by the "Sync Events". everything works perfectly when loaded onto an LMS. If I publish to html (not SCORM) and run it locally it works fine for some people (using IE), but others do NOT see the triggered events. The pages load, the sound is there but any text or images ties to the Mp3 do not display.
I guess this is a setting inside IE - can anyone give me an idea where to start?
